Summit Street Safety

Summit Street, like many other major state roadways is seeing its share of traffic accidents. We want our neighborhood to be a safe one, and it is time to start tracking what we are experiencing to see if we can petition the city or state to make adjustments to our streets. A couple years prior there were some studies completed of traffic on Summit and Fourth, at the same time frame that the new bike lanes were installed. In initial discussions with city staff, we were told that they will continually monitor the effect of the new bike lane and the removal of the Summit/Maynard traffic light. In order to have a well informed conversation with city or state traffic staff, it is time that we document as well as we can any traffic concerns and problems that we are experiencing.

Please feel comfortable posting below in the comments as much detail as you are willing to publish publicly (no names, addresses please) about what you have witnessed or have solid information about problems noticed on Summit Street. Information from you comments will be added to the list as we gather data (and your original comment will be removed). This is currently a non-structured document until we can gather enough data to know how best to organize the information you provide.

TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS

• 2017-11-26: Summit and Clinton. No details provided at this time.
• 2017-11-25: Summit and Maynard. Two vehicles involved. No injuries reported. Noted was damage to driver side of silver vehicle that ended up in the bike lane

UNCONFIRMED NOTES

• 2017-11-XX: Summit and Maynard. Westbound driver on Maynard attempted to enter southbound Summit traffic flow. Visibility around parked vehicles north of intersection on east side of Summit was difficult. Driver from Maynard was cited for causing accident.
• 2017-11-XX: Summit and Maynard. Westbound driver on Maynard attempted to inch forward to get better visibility around parked vehicles north of intersection on east side of Summit. Driver almost caused accident with southbound police cruiser, but driver stopped just prior to entering traffic flow.
• Prior reports of traffic accidents on Summit at Clinton and Maynard over last two years. Need to retrieve police reports to quantify.
• Prior reports of bicycle vs. vehicle accidents in new bike lane over last two years. Need to retrieve police reports to quantify.
