UAC Election Bio for Debbie Supelak and Rachael Beeman

SoHud has 2 Candidates in the running!

deb_uac<– Deb Supelak, one of the Block Watch organizers, is on the ballot and Rachael Beeman –>rach_uac, one of our active members, is running as a write-in candidate.  We’ve put their candidate statements below, along with a link to find out more about the UAC elections.

We have a real contest for the first time in years!

In our District (District 1), there are 2 seats open and there are 4 people running for them!  This is very exciting, especially considering that, in years past, many seats had no candidates running, and people were elected to the Commission with just 3 votes (that is not a typo:  in the most densely populated area of the City, with over 45,000 residents, only 20 individuals turned out to vote in last year’s Commission election).

This is good news, but it means we really need to “Get Out the Vote!”

Regardless of who you vote for, it is important that you come out and vote.  There are 2 days when Commission polling will be open, and there are 2 locations each day.  You will need to bring your ID and Proof of Your Address with you, but you do not have to be a registered voter:

Meet your candidates:

  • WRITE-IN  Rachael Beeman:

Area Resident, OSU Student, Active Member of SoHud Block Watch
Why am I running?
As a commissioner I will work to improve communication, safety, and quality of life for all residents in the UAC area. I will work to improve resident knowledge and participation in the most accessible level of local government, and will continue to voice the concerns of local residents. I believe a unified approach to issues such as safety and community growth will best address our immediate concerns and long term vision for our home, the greater University Area.

If you’ve been to meetings anytime in the last year and a half, you will remember Rachael’s ability to speak up,  to advocate for residents’ safety, and to follow through with action.  You may also remember her winning smile.  Let Rachael’s beaming smile be your reminder to write-in Rachael Beeman 🙂

  • Deb Supelak:

Area Resident for 31 years, Neighborhood Homeowner for 23 years, Co-Organizer of SoHud Block Watch.
Why am I running?
I intend to help the University Area Commission be more effective at communicating with our neighborhoods, and to better reflect the interest of the residents who live here.
I aim to help the Commission, City leaders, and residents:

  • Advocate relentlessly for the concerns of the residents
  • Improve safety and minimize crime
  • Build a strong sense of community
  • Enhance quality of life in our neighborhoods
  • Encourage resident ownership of the place we call home!
