ALERT: Crime reports as of 6/29/2013

About 2 weeks ago, a neighbor just west of Indianola fell asleep in the living room with the front door open and woke up to find that someone had come in, stolen the neighbor’s keys, and driven off with the car.

About a 2 weeks ago, a vigilant neighbor (gotta love those vigilant neighbors!!) noticed someone taking large screen TV’s from a house on Summit and placing them into an abandoned, unsecured garage in the alley.  Very shortly afterward, the “mover” came back in a car and appeared to be loading the TV’s into the vehicle.  Our vigilant neighbor simply spoke to the man, who immediately sped off.  When the neighbor reported the license plate number to the police, they stated it matched a stolen vehicle.

Broken car window glass is showing up on the streets around Wyandotte, Summit, and N. Fourth with more frequency this past few weeks.  Cars both on and off the streets are being broken into.  For example, one car parked directly behind the owners house in a brightly lit parking area was broken into, so please take all precautions to secure your belongings.

Last weekend, numerous large and loud parties were witnessed in rental properties along Summit, from Clinton southward.  One near Oakland last Sunday night was estimated by a witness to have well over a hundred people in attendance and was broken up by the police, sending multiple large crowds (12 to 20 people) who fled the police running through alleys, cutting through private backyards, and marauding around the adjoining blocks for over an hour in the middle of the night. They clashed with crowds from some of the other parties, as well. While loud and inconsiderate, I am not specifically aware of destruction or theft by these partiers.

The Columbus Police’s public crimetracking website is going through an overhaul, so data is not readily available for the (un-)foreseeable future.  This means WE NEED TO BE EVEN BETTER AT COMMUNICATING WITH EACH OTHER!!  Please talk with your neighbors!  Please pass along any information you know to our Facebook page, or the direct email news@sohudblockwatch.org    THANKS!!!

Have a happy, and safe Fourth of July, y’all!
