Old North Columbus

Old North Columbus houses
Old North Columbus is comprised of the area from Lane Ave and north to the Glen Echo Ravine, and from the Olentangy River over to the east at the CSX railroad tracks near I-70. In the late 1800s, the area was an in between for travelers in Worthington heading to Columbus and vice versa. Today, the area is now organized into multiple neighborhoods with their own unique and quirky identities.

Old North Columbus Blockwatch

Prior to forming the SoHud Blockwatch, we checked the city records to locate active block watches in the area. The Old North Columbus (ONC) Blockwatch concentrated on the area east of High Street, west of Indianola and just south of Hudson. We attended a couple useful meetings where Columbus Police were the featured speaker. The ONC in 2012 did not have an electronic presence and meeting flyers did not often appear east of Indianola. Today, the ONC has started their own Facebook group and experimenting with other forms of electronic communications. Today, you will find many members active in both the SoHud and ONC block watches which includes members that live west of the CSX railroad tracks all the way to Neil Ave, and just north of Lane Avenue and well into the Glen Echo and the South Clintonville area.

Information

The Old North Columbus Business Association maintains a website that lists several businesses along the High Street Corridor. The Old North Columbus blockwatch mainly keeps a low profile of communication among neighbors and utilizes a phone tree and random neighborhood flyer campaigns centered around the Blake and Adams area. The blockwatch was not active in the area east of Indianola, which prompted the formation of the SoHud Blockwatch to mobilize neighbors in an aggressive online campaign via Facebook, door to door flyers and our own branded website. Today, SoHud Blockwatch will continue to assist the ONC in providing all of our neighbors in the area loosely defined by the railroad tracks and west to Neil Ave and from approximately Alden Avenue and north into the Glen Echo Ravine area with information about crimes as well as community events, parades, graffiti cleanups and general City of Columbus news.
